What to expect

Most patients will undergo a surgical consultation to determine what, if any, surgical procedure is needed. In some cases that procedure can be performed the same day, other times it will need to be scheduled. Please do not feed your pet the morning of the appointment, just in case a same-day procedure is possible. Also, bring any recent lab work or pertinent medical records for your pet. If we are performing surgery, we will contact you when we start anesthesia and at the end of the procedure. A discharge time for later that afternoon is usually set up at that time. We will provide detailed instructions for postoperative care and recheck appointments.

A board-certified veterinary surgeon is a veterinarian who has completed advanced training (a minimum 1 year rotating internship, followed by a 3 year surgical residency), published veterinary research, and passed a rigorous certification examination. After completing these requirements and passing the examination, the veterinarian is then referred to as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Learn more about boarded veterinary surgeons and the procedures we perform at ACVS.org.

What about follow up examinations?

Recheck examinations can be performed either with your primary veterinarian or at our facility. If your veterinarian performs follow up care, we will work closely with them to review recheck radiographs and examination findings to provide further treatment recommendations.
